All guards and other safety devices should be kept in good working order and checked regularly (e.g. – guillotines - daily by operators and six-monthly checks by a competent person). Machinery should be isolated before maintenance work is carried out, especially if the work involves the removal of guards.

Safeguards should be checked after any modifications to machinery. Maintenance should be considered prior to installing new machines.
