Guards are required on edge gumming machines with nipping rollers and on the in-feed belts of edge stripping machines. Some machines in particular metal comb (Spiro) binding work can present certain hazards. Guards on the powered bar or platen of the machines which close the comb must be adjusted properly and kept in position. Hand-operated paper cutting guillotines need to have an adequate blade guard fitted.
